Is Acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture needles are sterile and disposable, and are approved by the FDA as "safe and effective". A licensed Acupuncturist has received extensive training in the method of properly, effectively, and safely needling the patient.

Does it hurt?

Acupuncture needles are up to 30 times thinner than hypodermic needles. Since they are solid rather than hollow, they are far less painful than getting blood drawn or getting a shot. Often, depending on location, there is no pain at all when the needle punctures the skin; sometimes, a slight prick can be felt.

How long does a treatment take?

Allow one hour for your initial session, and forty-five minutes for subsequent visits.

How many treatments will I need?

Each case has a different time line, as every individual’s constitutional makeup and lifestyle is different. A general rule of thumb is one month of treatment for every year that an ailment has existed. Chronic conditions usually take longer to treat than acute ones. Frequency of sessions varies from 1-2 times a week, depending on the nature of the ailment.

What does the medical establishment think about Acupuncture?

The World Health Organization acknowledges the effectiveness of Acupuncture in treating at least 43 clinical conditions, and this number continues to grow as, every year, scientific studies are completed which further demonstrate the efficacy of Acupuncture. In 1996, the FDA changed the status of Acupuncture needles from "investigational" to "safe and effective". In 1997, the National Institutes of Health finally gave Acupuncture the "official" seal of approval in a Consensus Statement.

Does my insurance cover Acupuncture?

Most insurance companies in NYC cover acupuncture. Usually an insurance plan that covers chiropractic will cover Acupuncture.
